Founded in 1991 over ten thousand children have benfited from the
sponsorship of the RCWS. This
organization provides aid to over 260 programs focusing on rural areas.
Most of the aid goes to orphans, disabled children, and children needing
medical attention. In May of 2000 alone RCWS helped seventeen different
programs. Included in this list is the St. Nicholas Classical High School
which recieved a 7,500 grant for medicine and food.
Russian Orphan Opportunity Fund
(ROOF)
ROOF, The
Russian Orphan
Opportunity Fund (ROOF), founded in 1997, is a pioneer organization in
providing resources
to facilitate quality educational programmes and related opportunities to
raise the employment prospects for orphans and young adults in
Russia. In 1999 ROOF opened the first Post-Orphange Education
Center. Here young adults that have just left orghanges have the
opportunity to finish
school, prepare for college, and learn life skills.Also, in the
1999-2000 school year ROOF provided fifty teachers for nine different
orphanages.
United Nations Children's Fund
(Unicef)
UNICEF is mandated by the United
Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's
rights, to help meet the basic needs of children and to
expand
opportunities
to reach their full potential. This organization
works to help children in over 130 countries around the world.
UNICEF works hand in hand with local governments, communities, and
organizations. Their programs
include providing access to immunization, regular health care,
nutrition, safe water, and opportunities
for a better education.
In addition, UNICEF works to improve understanding of children's and
women's rights around the
world.
