Swedish Organizations

Not only does the Swedish government provide parents with a generous leave of absence policy, but there are also many national and local organizations located in Sweden with the goal of defending the rights of children.

In 1919 Radda Barnen, the Swedish organization that is the equivalent to Save the Children, founded the Swedish Children's Ombudsman, a voluntary organization concerned with children's welfare. Since Radda Barnen, which operates outside of the state administration, employs it, the Children's Ombudsman has no legal. Despite this obvious drawback, the organization is able to do a lot for the children in Sweden. The goal of Children's Ombudsman is to be the voice for the children in Sweden. Even though they do not have the power to change laws they are able to put pressure on those who do and supply them with the facts and knowledge needed to strengthen the rights of children. They have this ability and power because they are so respected by the citizens of Sweden.

A Swedish Organization that is deeply concerned with the well being of the youth in Sweden is Projekt Nordirland, also referred to as Proni. Proni focuses on educating children about issues regarding the consequences of segregation.

Aktiv Ungdom is another non-profit organization that gathers children to join in on activities that stress cooperation and respect for others. This group was founded in 1976, has over 175 location through out Sweden and consists of over 30,000 members
